Working with a student doing the Circle of Excellence Program
A TOTE program the students did one day.
Why NeuroLinquistics?
In 2007 I went to see an NLP coach for some health problems. As I was taught new ways of thinking and organizing my thought processes I was able to allow both diabetes and liver diseases to leave my body. This was a fascinating process. I learned new ways of looking at things and although I had gone for my personal health I soon found, as any good teacher does, I was making direct application of my learning to my classroom. My students were gaining new tools for learning and were happier.
This is why teachers are encouraged to continue to take classes. Furthering our education is a part of renewing our teaching certificates. Good teachers charge up their batteries as they learn new things and then discharge those batteries by charging up the learning batteries of their students.
I contrasted the way the students I had worked with were able to accept the death of their classmate with experiences previously of students passing away who had been in our school. I realized that I had been able to give those students a wonderful gift of learning how to grieve, accept loss, create special memories and move on. The children were well grounded and secure in their acceptance of her death and, more importantly, of the value of her life to them. They were secure in the knowledge that their family was there to support them and knew how to request that support. I had a tool I had never been taught in school, a program for an incredible life skill. This created a desire to learn more programs.
I started researching and found that NLP was a fairly new field used primarily in business, management training, executive coaching, sports, health, and therapy to model and create excellence. The study of NLP originated in the 1970’s with two college professors from the University of California Santa Cruz, Richard Bandler and John Grinder. I researched and found it little used in the school setting. Some teachers are using it and are enthusiastic; however it takes a lot of modifying to use it in the classroom setting. The greatest use for most teachers is for their own personal growth and teaching skills. I started looking at NLP programs such as the Disney Model of Creativity, TOTE, and Circle of Excellence and realized that these programs could be broken down into individual skills to be taught to my students as life skills.

I started the process of adapting the NLP programs to the levels of the special needs students and enjoyed watching my students learn new skills that are now helping them succeed in the future. these same skills that are taught to CEO’s, doctors, nurses, sports stars and business managers.
After my first year of study, my work was recognized by the National Education Association and I was granted funds to help defray my costs for the Master's track. While there I took a class in psychoneuroimmunology taught by Patricia Novak and in 2008 year recieved the Idaho Governor's Initiative Grant to purchase materials to support my students in learning psychoneuroimmunology, the study of how to use the power of the mind to maintain optimum health.
This picture is of me with Judith DeLozier. She used me as a demonstration subject at NLPU Practitioner's Course 2007 for the Disney Strategy for Creativity. It was an incredible experience where I saw an NLP curriculum start to emerge. I knew I would do it and I did. It is the NLP for Me curriculum you see on the Products and Services page.
I enjoy creating a world in which my Special Needs students want to belong and to contribute to.
