Magic Valley NLP

U.S Heritage Curriculum is a complete set of six weeks of lessons for special needs students teaching them about our heritage. Included are songs, handwriting pages, coloriong pages, and craft projects. 

This coordinates with a site where students can earn a patch or pin.  This makes a wonderful presentation at an awards assembly and puts your studentsin the limelight.

At NLPU I studied under Patricia Novak, Ph.D.   I was so impressed with her work modeling good health.  I wanted to bring her curriculum and ideas into my classroom. 

I set about creating worksheets and then this year I received the Idaho Governor's Innitiate Grant to purchase materials to use with the curriculum. 

My students are healthier and my aides state that they are healthier also.

As for me, I have been the healthiest in my whole life. I have gone for 2 years without a cold.  Now that's pretty good for a teacher. Most of my students can say the same.  What a beautiful gift to give my students for their future, the tools for good health. 

The curriculum includes worksheets, each taking about 15 minutes of class time to complete plus lesson plans and coloring pages.  With special needs, some students take much longer than others to complete a page and most cannot take out a book and read so I print a coloring page on the back for the students to color if they get done eary.

I used a commercially produced math daily math review program with my students and found, to my delight, they did better on math testing with a daily review. 

The problem I encountered is that the program was written for general education students who make progress rather rapidly in comparison to my students.  I needed more worksheets!

I have created for my students up to 200 worksheets at each level offered. Each level features review in 8-10 different math areas such as counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, money, time, fractions, shapes and measuring. 

Well worth the money, if you have the “fonts For Teachers program installed on your computer you will want the CD so that you can download and print the pages you want.  The CD will have more pages available to you.  Otherwise you will want to purchase the teachers manual with reproducible worksheets ready for you to use.  Each level contains 100 worksheets for your use.

I print the Daily Math Review on one side of the page, and on the other I do a times test sheet. My students do the timed test for one minute, then complete the problems.  They then flip the sheet and complete the Daily Math Review sheet. 

I am please to present the multiplication worksheets.  They have 20 pages on each number.  There are 20 page of 5’s as an example.  I’ve had a lot of success with my students learning their times tables with these worksheets.
